Syrah in France and around the world

Spices, black fruits, violet, pepper… Syrah is a grape variety that leaves no one indifferent. Today the queen of the Rhône Valley, Syrah was almost unknown barely sixty years ago.

Our sommelier will guide you through the many facets of Syrah with a tasting of five wines from different regions of France and around the world . You will compare the styles and expressions of this grape variety based on its terroir of origin.

You will learn to:

• Recognizing the characteristic aromas of Syrah (black fruits, violet, pepper, licorice, spices)

• Distinguishing a Syrah from the northern Rhône Valley (Côte-Rôtie, Hermitage) from a Syrah from the New World (Australia, California, South Africa)

• Understanding the influence of climate and winemaking on the wine profile (freshness vs. power, elegance vs. concentration)
